Welcome! Our Masonic Order draws inspiration from the life and legend of King Athelstan, often described as the “first king of all the English,” who ruled from 924 to 939 AD.
At its heart, the Order explores how early references to masonry in English history helped shape what later became speculative Freemasonry. We also encourage our members to take a deeper interest in learning, studying, and researching this fascinating heritage.
Since being founded in Newmarket in 2005, the Order has grown quickly and now has an international presence. We proudly celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2025.
In England and Wales, the Order is organised in a way that reflects the ancient Anglo-Saxon kingdoms wherever possible. Because of this, our Provinces don’t always match modern county borders. For example, the Athelstan Province of East Anglia covers Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
Membership is by invitation only. We look for members who are genuinely interested and actively engaged in all aspects of Freemasonry. Members are also required to hold current active membership in both Craft and Royal Arch Masonry, within Lodges and Chapters that are in full amity with the United Grand Lodge of England and the Supreme Grand Chapter.
